Plain resident and local builder Gary
Graham first came to our area back when he was a young boy back in
the 60's. He fell in love with the many outdoor activities that
were available; as well as the rural nature of the area. After
graduating from high school in Bellevue, Gary sign up with the
Army, and served a three year stint in Germany. Upon his
return, Gary followed in his father's footsteps and went into
building. Gary has been building in this area since 1978,
and has lived at his riverfront house in Plain for 12 years.
Gary has designed many of the homes
that he builds. The knowledge and insight he has gained from
the field is a big advantage during the design phase of the
project. It helps to keep material and labor costs down, and
even more important, the customer ends up with a high degree of
"utility", meaning good, efficient, and useable floor layouts.
Gary works with a small but well
trained crew. His primary helper is Jim Raides, who has
worked for Gary for over 9 years. I've watched these two work
together on many projects, and it is amazing how productive they
are together. After all those years working side by side, they
instinctively know what the other is thinking, and what needs to
be done next.
Gary brings lots of enthusiasm to the
job, and this energy carries over in his recreational pursuits as
well. This past winter he has taken up "skate skiing", which
is a form of cross country skiing on a smoothly groomed track
about 10' wide. If you have never seen anyone skate ski, head down
to the cross country ski trail in Leavenworth and check it out.
Gary and his wife Myndi have been taking skate ski lessons
together. They also like to backpack together during the summer
months.
